The KCC Fishing Club went in search of rainbows last Friday. It wasn’t pots of gold we were after but rainbow trout.
We headed off in a minibus packed with fishing tackle, waterproofs and of course plenty of food. Our intrepid anglers divided into pairs and fished approximately 20 metres apart. Most of the group tried the humble worm to tempt our prey and sure enough it was the most successful method on the day.
There was great excitement when Szymon caught a real beauty. It was his biggest fish to date and the smile on his face was worth the trip alone. Cian also got in on the act with a fine rainbow and not to be outdone Alex got a lovely fish on a Mepps. Of course Jack got his usual 5 or 6 but we suspect he was dipping his worms in some quare stuff from South Kerry!!!
Anne Marie was excellent on cooking duties. Her burgers and Clonakilty sausages tasted amazing out in the clear air and a couple of other anglers watched on enviously as we scoffed the lot. We even cooked Cian’s trout and he says it’s the best fish he’s ever tasted! We also celebrated Dimitris’s birthday with a beautiful cake baked by Anne Marie.
The fishing went quiet after lunch but I can reveal that Mr. Gallagher hooked and lost a fantastic fish on one of Jack’s own creations.
All in all a great day out and everything was rainbow, rainbow, rainbow!!!
